Classes at The Beaded Giraffe The opportunity to learn new techniques, whether beginner or advanced, and to discuss designs and projects is an essential element of every creative activity. To support our customers' interest in learning and growing in their craft, The Beaded Giraffe offers classes at a variety of levels and will be offering more in 2007. Currently on the calendar of events you will find our basic stringing techniques class, Sensational Stringing Techniques, which focuses on learning about tools and materials as well as creating, crimping and finishing a 20" necklace and matching earrings. Another popular class is Easy Earrings, which teaches earring design techniques including using headpins and wire wrapping. This is a great class to use all those "orphan beads" that we seem to collect from every project we complete. Drops, chandeliers, gypsy hoops, dangly chain.... all are your creative jumping-off point for a fabulous collection of one-of-a-kind earrings! And to expand our customers' knowledge base about jewelry craft, we are offering Beautiful Byzantine Chainmail for Beginners in December. Chainmaille, as used in suits of armor, was first produced around 700 AD for early Norman and Saxon armies to protect them in hand-to-hand combat. Chainmaille is characterized by a variety of weaves, and TBG's class teaches you the Byzantine weave and its variations. The class will also cover basic instruction on wire gauges, aspect ratio, opening and closing jump rings and making your own jump rings. For all of our classes, class size is limited to allow for lots of personal interaction and one-on-one attention from the instructor. So reserve your space early by calling or stopping by the store. You can also check our calendar for more information on upcoming classes. |
